Thailand to speed up constructing new electric railways

BANGKOK, October 1 (TNA) - The Thai government, through the Ministry of Transport, will speed up the construction of many new electric railways so that they are completed as soon as possible. New Permanent Secretary for Transport Chartchai Tipsunave told journalists of the information on Thursday, saying that his ministry will seek the Cabinet's approval of an investment plan on the construction of the extended orange-line electric rail tracks, phase 1, from Thailand Cultural Centre to Min Buri in Bangkok, within this month. According to the senior official, his ministry will also speed up a bidding process for the construction of three new motorways with a total distance of 196 kilometres, worth 84.6 billion baht, in which the Cabinet has already approved for the construction during 2016-2020. The senior official stressed that there is a need to make public transport systems in Thailand more efficient. (TNA)
