Thailand speeds up mega infrastructure projects under EEC

BANGKOK, March 14 (TNA) -- Thailand is speeding up two of five mega infrastructure projects under the development of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) including a high speed railway and U-Tapao Airport upgrade. Industry Minister Uttama Savanayana revealed the decision after a meeting of EEC committee on Monday. Under the plan U-Tapao Airport in Chon Buri province will be upgraded to an International Airport to accommodate more than three million passengers per year. The high-speed railway will connect Bangkok and Rayong province, which has been designated for Thailand’s Eastern Seaboard. The decision would be submitted to the Cabinet to give a green light on April 5, he said. To streamline EEC development, the government has launched measures to support and accelerate the economic growth. These include measures to develop public utilities, transportation systems, logistics, human resources, and investor’s facilitation in the form of One-Stop Service Center. It will create a hub of trade and investment, a center for regional transportation and logistics, a significant source for human resources and a tourist attraction. (TNA)
