Thailand To Spend 1.912 Tril on Infrastructure

By Piyarat Nisangkard BANGKOK, March 28 (Bernama) -- The Thailand Cabinet has approved a budget of 1.912 trillion baht (100 baht = RM12.19) for infrastructure development under an eight-year plan covering 2015-2022. Col Sansern Kaewkamnerd, the government deputy spokesman, said under the transportation sector, the money was for the development of dual railway tracks and sky train as well as ports and habours. "In the aeronautical sector it involves the Betong airport project in Yala province, which is located in the southern part of the country and near border with Malaysia," he said. Sansern said the allocation would also help increase the service competitiveness of the airports such as Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Phuket and Maesot (bordering Myanmar in northern part of Thailand) He said budget was also expected to boost the country's growth, create jobs as well benefitted sectors such as logistics, transportation and tourism, he said. -- BERNAMA
