Thailand to sustain status as ASEAN’s capital-raising hub

BANGKOK, December 1 (TNA) - Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) plans to sustain the Thai Kingdom's status as a capital-raising center in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). SEC Secretary-General Vorapol Socatiyanurak told journalists on Monday that SEC will implement strategies next year to achieve the goal. Vorapol said SEC has worked out the strategies to keep the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) a champion in ASEAN amidst the fluctuation of fund flows due to different economic recoveries of countries. Under the strategies, the SEC chief acknowledged, SEC will maintain the reliability of the Thai stock market, protect investors efficiently up to the international standard and strengthen listed companies. Besides, the SET will integrate its investment products with those of capital markets in other member countries in the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) to attract more international investors. In addition, the SEC chief stated, SEC will efficiently prevent and suppress wrongdoing, while also reviewing regulations and instruments to prevent wrongdoing among listed companies and brokers, along with improving its acceptance of complaints, internal operations and database.
