Thailand's EXIM Bank to assist disaster-affected clients in Lao PDR

BANGKOK, July 25 (TNA) - The Export-Import Bank of Thailand (EXIM Bank) will assist its clients who are affected by the collapse of the Xepian-Xe Nam Noy Hydropower Dam in Lao PDR. EXIM Bank President Pisit Serewiwattana told journalists of the policy on Wednesday, stating that the EXIM Bank has closely followed up the updated situation in the neighboring country and is evaluating impacts on its clients affected by the disaster, including investors in the Lao hydroelectric dam. Pisit said that the EXIM Bank will render assistance to the affected clients when the situation in the neighboring country returns to normal. According to the EXIM Bank president, his bank has, however, initially provided a financial support of about 100,000 baht to flood victims in Lao PDR. The Xepian-Xe Nam Noy Hydropower Dam, located in Attapeu Province, collapsed in the evening of July 23, releasing a massive amount of about 5 billion cubic meters of water and causing flash floods in its downstream areas that have killed dozens of villagers so far, while more than 100 others remain missing and more than 6,600 people have become homeless.
