Thailand's expanding economy remains uneven

BANGKOK, June 4 (TNA) - Bangkok-based University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (UTCC) reports that Thailand's recovering economy is uneven, causing the remaining economic disparity in the country. The university's rector, Saowanee Thairungroj, told journalists of the information, following her university's recent survey on Thailand's economic prospect in separate regions for the second half of this year. Saowanee acknowledged, however, that the Thai economy has generally kept expanding despite the uneven aspect, with some areas growing by 4.8 per cent as targeted by the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB) but some areas not yet meeting the official target. The senior academic explained that the uneven expansion of the Thai economy is caused by different stages of infrastructure development and levels of household debts in different areas nationwide, resulting in the disparity in purchasing power of local people and the unever economic growth rates in separate Thai regions.
