Thailand's human trafficking report on labour to be completed early 2016

BANGKOK, October 6 (TNA) - The Ministry of Labour expects to complete Thailand's 2015 human trafficking report on labour by early next year, along with amendments of relevant laws. Permanent Secretary for Labour ML Boontharik Samiti told journalists of the plans, after a meeting on human trafficking on labour in Thailand, chaired by Labour Minister General Sirichai Ditthakul, at the ministry on October 5. ML Boontharik said that participants in Monday's meeting discussed plans to prepare Thailand's 2015 report on solutions to human trafficking by his ministry and legal procedures to supervise migrant workers in Thailand. ML Boontharik revealed that there has also been considerable progress on amending relevant laws so far this year, after the United States charged that Thailand’s laws were incomplete and unclear, leading to Washington's decision, announced on July 27, 2015, to maintain Thailand on its lowest Tier 3 category on alleged human trafficking-related issues. According to the senior Thai official, his ministry has cooperated with the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security in inspecting sensitive areas where migrant workers are employed. (TNA)
