Turkey to boost electricity imports from Iran:Iranian energy minister

TEHRAN,Apr.23(MNA) – Turkey will import more electricity from Iran because its hydro power capacity is low due to lack of rain, Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz said. "Our hydro power capacity is low due to lack of rain, so we import electricity from Iran," World Bulletin quoted Yildiz as saying on Monday. Turkey occasionally imports and exports electricity to neighboring countries such as Iran depending on electricity production levels, Yildiz said. After visiting Tehran last week, Turkish Development Minister Cevdet Yilmaz said Tehran and Ankara have launched a new procedure for electricity imports from Iran, Press TV reported. Iran has established two electricity transmission lines to eastern Turkey with an overall capacity of 400 megawatts. In the last Iranian year (ending March 20, 2014) Turkey imported 850 million kilowatt hours of electricity from Iran.
