Turkish Airlines receive three awards in ceremony held at British House of Lords

LONDON (A.A) - November 10, 2011 - Turkey's national air carrier Turkish Airlines (THY) received three awards in a ceremony held at the British House of Lords on Wednesday. The awards were presented to the THY by an organization named "Asian Guild" and one that was established by Asians contributing to the economic and cultural life of Britain. During the ceremony, the THY was given the "Best Airlines in Europe in 2011" award for their services to India. THY Director General Temel Kotil and THY's Marketing and Sales Director Sezgin Saglam received awards of friendship. THY currently flies to New Delhi and Bombay from Birmingham and the company is making plans to have daily flights to 5-6 destinations in India soon. Turkish Airlines is the national flag carrier airline of Turkey, headquartered in Istanbul. It operates scheduled services to 146 international and 41 domestic cities (38 domestic airports), serving a total of 187 airports, in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. In 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 THY carried 17 million, 19.7 million, 22.5 million, 25.1 million and 29 million passengers with total revenues of US$2.23, $3.0, $4.5, $4 and $5.6 billion, respectively. The number of passengers carried by THY in the first nine months of 2011 rose by 11 percent to 24.3 million compared with the same period of last year.
