Turkish national flag carrier to fly to London Gatwick Airport

ISTANBUL (A.A) - October 30, 2011 - Turkish Airlines (THY) will start operating scheduled flights to London's Gatwick Airport this winter, a company statement said on Sunday. THY will start flying from Istanbul's Ataturk Airport to London's Gatwick Airport every day as of December 20. Gatwick Airport will be THY's third destination in London following Heathrow and Stansted airports. Moreover, THY is planning to increase its flights to Washington, Los Angeles and Bangkok during the winter.  Turkish Airlines will raise its Istanbul-Washington flights to 6 days from 5 days a week, Istanbul-Los Angeles flights to 5 days from 4 days, and Istanbul-Bangkok flights to 14 times from 7 times. THY is also planning to raise its Johannesburg-Cape Town flights to seven days a week, and Dar es Salaam flights to four days a week. Turkish Airlines is the national flag carrier airline of Turkey, headquartered in Istanbul. It operates scheduled services to 146 international and 41 domestic cities (38 domestic airports), serving a total of 187 airports, in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. In 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 THY carried 17 million, 19.7 million, 22.5 million, 25.1 million and 29 million passengers with total revenues of US$2.23, $3.0, $4.5, $4 and $5.6 billion, respectively. The number of passengers carried by THY in the first nine months of 2011 rose by 11 percent to 24.3 million compared with the same period of last year.
