Turkish Request For Iran’s Gas Price Discount Not Relevant To Sanctions

Tehran, Oct 29, IRNA - Turkish Ambassador to Tehran Umit Yardim said Monday that Ankara's request for discount in Iran's exported gas price has nothing to do with the western sanctions against Iran. Speaking to IRNA, the ambassador said the issue is not a new subject and the two sides have been studying the issue since long time ago. Yardim said certain media sought to show that Ankara was to take advantage of the anti-Iran sanctions by asking for Iranian exported gas in lower prices. Referring to those reports as mere lies, the ambassador said no specific decision has been made on the issue. Yardim added that the recent explosion in Turkish-Iran gas pipeline was a terrorist act. However, he stressed that the attack would not lead to a halt on the exports of Iran’s gas to Turkey even if it has shortly disrupted the natural gas flow from Iran. According to an official from the Turkish province of Agri, an explosion in east of that country damaged the Turkey-Iran gas pipeline, disrupting the natural-gas flow from Iran. The blast took place in the town of Eleskirt just before Thursday midnight./end
