UNDP Finances Project For Management Of Hableh-Rud

Semnan, Sept 29, IRNA – Executive director of Hableh-Rud international project Houshang Jazi announced implementation of the second stage of the project with a UNDP credit of $700 thousand. Speaking on the sideline of an inspection tour by a number of directors of international projects of Hableh-Rud in Garmsar (Semam Province) on Monday the official told IRNA that the office has allocated $150 thousand for the implementation of the project this year. He put Iran’s share in this project at 1 billion rials and said within the framework of the second stage of the project building structure, developing different production formations and establishing a fund for local credits have become operational. Jazi said in this one-day inspection tour, directors of international projects such as protection of the Iranian cheetah, protection of Iran’s ponds, biodiversity, management of Hirkan forest and, carbon sequestration together with local experts were present. The plan for sustainable management of land and water resources (SMLWR) was launched in the calendar year 1376 (1997-98) in line with a joint program between Iran and UNDP in the water basin of Hableh-Rud in an area of 1.2 hectares as exemplary region. The main objective behind implementation of the project is to gain access to a proper pattern for planning and evaluation of land and water resources and generalizing the outcome to the national plan for protection of natural resources with the participation of village dwellers in the management of water resources./end
