US-ASEAN Business Council Supports TPPA Successful Negotiation

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- The US-ASEAN Business Council offered its support for the successful negotiation of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) in Atlanta, Georgia on Monday. President and Chief Executive Officer Alexander Feldman said Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries, including Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam, represent over 30 per cent of countries negotiating the agreement. "Forty per cent of the ASEAN nations will be signatories of the TPPA and others, including the Philippines, have indicated an interest in joining in the future. "The agreement will positively impact commercial relations between the US and these countries and this is a critical component of engagement between the US and Southeast Asia," he said. The council said the agreement would improve intellectual property, environment, labour and e-Commerce standards across the region. --BERNAMA
