US tends to import more pineapple from Thailand

BANGKOK, July 31 (TNA) - Thailand is the first top exporter of canned pineapple to the US with the market share at 59 per cent, followed by Philippines with market share at 25 per cent. Director of the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), Malee Choklumlerd said the market of pineapple products in the US grew 6 per cent, valued at US$1.1 billion or around Bt41 billion. It is estimated that US pineapple market this year could increase around 5-8 per cent, worth around US$1.2 billion or Bt43 billion. The US tends to import more pineapple for exports to the UAE and Canada. Thai pineapple products, which have much potential in the US market include pineapple juice and canned pineapple. Meanwhile, in order to promote Thailand' food products in the US market, DITP is launching a project for Thai entrepreneurs and producers to encourage them to join overseas trade fairs like Summer Fancy Food Show in New York or Americas Food and Beverage Show in Miami.
