Use of electric vehicles campaigned in Thailand

BANGKOK, October 2 (TNA) - The Thai government, through the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, is promoting the use of electric vehicles to reduce pollution in the country. Natural Resources and Environment Minister Surasak Karnjanarat told journalists of the policy on Friday, explaining that conventional vehicles consuming diesel, gasoline and gas have emitted pollutants, including carbon monoxide, hydrocarbon, nitrogen oxide, dust and greenhouse gases with the emission rate at 0.1-12.9 grams of gases per kilometre. Surasak pointed out that electric vehicles do not emit air pollutants and they should, thus, be promoted in Thailand to effectively reduce pollution. Due to their low speeds presently, the minister urged manufacturers to increase their speeds so that commuters could really use them on streets, rather than only using the electric vehicles in golf courses, hotels and tourist destinations.
