Volkswagen to recall 2,425 Passat sedans for engine oil pump failures

SEJONG, June 24 (Yonhap) -- Audi Volkswagen Korea, the local importer and distributer of Germany's Volkswagen Group, will recall 2,425 units of its Passat mid-sized sedan for an engine oil pump failure, the South Korean transport ministry said Friday. A defect in the oil pump shaft may result in low or no oil pressure, which could lead to a sudden engine stop, according to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. It said 2,425 units of the Passat 2.0 TDI sedans produced between July 13, 2005, and May 16, 2008, are eligible for the free repair service at the company's garages in South Korea, starting from June 30. The recall was ordered in March, but the specific schedule had been put on hold as the company delayed in securing the components, according to the ministry. The ministry also said Forza Motors Korea Corp. will recall a combined 1,957 units of the Maserati Quattro Porte and Maserati Ghibli sedans produced between March 15, 2013, and Sept. 23, 2015, due to a potential problem with the rear toe-in adjustment rods. Free replacement services are available on Friday. brk@yna.co.kr (END)
