VR Truck launched in Bangkok to promote Thai tourism

BANGKOK, November 3 (TNA) - The state-run Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has launched its VR Truck Program to promote domestic tourism through the computerized virtual reality (VR) technology. TAT Governor Yuthasak Suphasorn presided over an event to inaugurate the TAT VR Truck Program in Bangkok on Friday, under which VR trucks, used as mobile museums for Thai tourism insights, are stationed at schools and other educational institutes, as well as focal tourist destinations in the capital. Yuthasak said the VR Truck Program is aimed to offer a new experience and learning approach on the Thai tourism insights to both local and foreign tourists to inspire and encourage them to visit Thai tourist attractions presented in the VR Trucks, where VR glasses are provided for international visitors for their three-dimensioned, 360 degree views of the Thai tourist attractions. VR is a computerized technology that uses virtual reality headsets or multi-projected environments, sometimes in combination with physical environments or props, to generate realistic images. "VR Trucks are like Thai tourism museums where the country's tourism festivals, attractions and available routes towards the festivity sites and attractions in many regions have been gathered, under the TAT's Villages to the World 4.0 Project, including historic and ancient sites and traditional events and cultures nationwide, to be presented to visitors through VR glasses", explained the TAT governor. Besides, TAT has developed its Mobile VR Application, in which the Thai tourism festivals and attractions, including those in the northern resort Chiang Mai Province, the eastern resort Chon Buri Province and the northeastern Nakhon Ratchasima Province or Korat, are also accessible easily through users of smart phones. According to the TAT governor, the VR Truck Program and the Mobile VR Application are mainly targeted younger generations, both Thai people and foreign visitors, namely students, who are well-literate in modern information technology (IT) and are expected to disseminate the Thai tourism insights to others.
