Workers in Thailand ask for new daily wage hike to Bt360

BANGKOK, September 14 (TNA) - On behalf of workers, the Thai Labour Solidarity Committee (TSLC) has submitted a letter to the Ministry of Labour, demanding for a new daily minimum wage increase to 360 baht nationwide, from 300 baht currently. TSLC Vice Chairman Charlie Loisoong submitted the letter to Permanent Secretary for Labour ML Puntrik Smiti, who is also Chairman of the Wage Committee, on Wednesday. Charlie told reporters the 300-baht daily minimum wage currently has not been raised since 2012 and a latest survey found that workers in 20 Thai provinces would like the government to raise the daily minimum wage to 360 baht across the nation. Charlie pointed out that the current daily minimum wage could not meet expenditures of workers' households, while the newly-proposed wage, if officially-approved, should help stimulate the national economy in line with the Thai government's policy.
