Yogyakarta To have 66 New Hotels In 2013

Yogyakarta, Jan 7 (ANTARA)- Yogyakarta will have 66 new hotels this year, a spokesman of the Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) said. The number of hotels in Yogyakarta will increase by 66 units including 22-star rated hotels and 44 non-star hotels, the secretary of Yogyakarta branch of PHRI, Deddy Pranowo Eryono, said here on Monday. With the new hotels, the special province of Yogyakarta will have 10,000 additional hotel rooms, bringing the total number to 28,000 rooms, Deddy said. Yogyakarta, in the central part of Java, is one of the country`s major tourist destinations. Among its tourist objects are the Borobudur Buddhist temple, one of the world`s wonder, and a beach resort Parangtritis. In 2012, Yogyakarta had 384 hotels including 42 star rated hotels and 342 non-star rated hotels. Deddy said the plan to build more hotels is prompted by the growing demand for hotel accommodations in the area, which often hosts national and international meetings. "Yogyakarta is still attractive and offer potential business in tourism related sectors mainly hotel operation," he said. He predicted hotel occupancy rate in Yogyakarta would increase this year despite the additional rooms. He hopes that the government will contribute with infrastructure development . Infrastructure is vital to support development of the tourism sector, he said.
