China expresses readiness to cooperate with Russia on multilateral regional platforms
BEIJING, April 3. /TASS/. China intends to coordinate its efforts within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), BRICS and other multilateral regional organizations jointly with Russia, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning said at a briefing on Monday.
"China is ready to work with Russia and other countries to further build cooperation and to coordinate things as part of multilateral structures, such as the SCO and BRICS, in order to contribute to peace, stability and development both regionally and globally," Mao said, when asked by a TASS reporter to comment on Russia’s updated foreign policy concept.
According to Mao, China is seeking to align its One Belt, One Road initiative with the Eurasian Economic Union. Also, she said, Beijing is ready for a flexible and multifaceted cooperation with the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) to help maintain regional stability.
On March 31, Russian President Vladimir Putin approved the country’s new foreign policy concept. According to the document, Russia is set to prioritize efforts to enhance the capacity and international role of BRICS, the SCO, the CIS, the EAEU, the CSTO, the Russia-India-China format and other interstate associations "with strong Russian participation."
