D-8, IRNA to expand media collaborations
Tehran, IRNA – The D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation and the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) have inked a memorandum of understanding to bolster cooperation in the media field.
D-8 Secretary General Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam and IRNA Director General Ali Naderi signed the MoU in Tehran on Wednesday.
The expansion of strategic capacities in terms of news and information dissemination, the exchange of professional experiences, and media cooperation among media operators are among the top terms of the accord.
The two sides will hold joint photo exhibitions concerning the D-8 activities and enhance cooperation in the multimedia section in particular in exchanging pictures and news footage.
Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam pointed to the important position of IRNA as the official news agency of the Islamic Republic of Iran, expressing hope that as a result of the MoU, the coverage of events related to the D-8 Organization would be put on the agenda of IRNA more than ever.
He described IRNA as a wide-ranging media, which covers regional and international developments, noting that the signature will definitely pave the way for more media cooperation between the D-8 and the media outlet.
The Commissioners of the Developing Eight Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8 Organization) include the Republic of Bangladesh, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Republic of Indonesia, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Malaysia, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, and the Republic of Türkiye.
The D-8 Organization was formed in 1997 to improve member states' position in the global economy, diversify and create new opportunities in trade relations, enhance participation in decision-making at the international level, and improve standards of living.
In 2023, Iran will host two significant events regarding communications and energy, so IRNA can inform the world public opinion of the organization’s conferences in the Islamic Republic.
Naderi, for his part, expressed IRNA’s readiness to cover important events of the organization, noting that the news agency plays a key role in disseminating news developments in the region and the world.
Referring to cruel sanctions imposed by the US and certain Western states on Iran, the IRNA chief underlined the need to expand cooperation among friendly and Muslim nations, arguing that the MoU between D-8 and IRNA will enhance the cooperation.
Jalaledin Alavi Sabzevari, Director General of Multilateral Economic Cooperation of Iran’s Foreign Ministry, pointed to the role of the D-8 Organization, saying that the MoU can pave the ground for important development in terms of information dissemination among member states.
Alavi Sabzevari also said that the Foreign Ministry is ready to cooperate in this regard to facilitate the media cooperation between IRNA and the D-8.
IRNA’s establishment dates back to 88 years ago. The news agency possesses 60 offices in Iran and overseas, and produces news stories in 10 languages: Persian, English, Arabic, French, German, Chinese, Russian, Turkish, Spanish, and Urdu.
