44th Roshd Int’l Film Festival ends

Tehran, Nov 22, IRNA – Iran’s 44th Roshd Int’l Film Festival concluded on Friday, Nov 21. The festival’s closing ceremony was attended by Education Minister Ali Asghar Fani and some of his deputies in Tehran’s Palestine Cinema. Delivering a speech at the ceremony, the Iranian minister said: “We intend to change the system of education in Iran by using technology beside text books, so the film festival can be a great help to us.” “As a complete educational package, media and films alongside books can be effective in developing the educational system”, he noted. “A total of 320 foreign films from 40 countries attended this year’s filmfest which indeed indicates that by the change of the government, more attention has been paid to the event and that foreigners are more eager to attend it”, Fani underlined. Organized by the Supplying Educational Media Center, Roshd International Film Festival is focuses on films with educational and pedagogical themes. The festival, as Iran’s oldest film event, was established in 1963 by the Bureau of Audio-visual Activities of the Ministry of Education of Iran. The event was first known as “the International Educational Film Festival.' The event has been seeking the general themes of 'Knowledge, Sciences and New Technology in the Educational Systems', 'Islamic Knowledge and Culture', 'Cultures of the Nations around the World', 'Education and Training', 'Exceptional Children', 'Physical Education', and 'Teaching Life Skills' The movies are presented in six categories including scientific short and feature films, video clips, short and long documentaries, short and feature animations, pedagogical fiction short films and long features for children, teenagers, parents and teachers./end
