The Azerbaijani armed forces have prevented an attempt by Armenian reconnaissance-raiding groups to cross the contact line in two directions. “On July 31 and on the night of August 1, the Armenian reconnaissance-raiding groups attempted to cross the troops` contact line in Aghdam and Tartar districts,” a statement released by the Azerbaijani Defence Ministry said. “The units of the Azerbaijani armed forces showed vigilance to uncover and prevent the sabotage.” ”After a heavy shootout the Armenian units were forced to retreat suffering loses,” said the Ministry. It added, however, that “unfortunately, the Azerbaijani Armed forces suffered loses too”. “In the fight against the enemy in the territory of Qazakh district on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border at 20.00 local time on July 31, Almasov Isa Ziyad, Warrant Officer of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, born in 1977, who was conscripted into the army from the Qazakh district, was killed by enemy fire,” the Ministry said. “The leadership of the Defence Ministry offers its deepest condolences and sympathies to the parents and loved ones of the martyrs,” the statement added.
