BACA introduces 27th Bahrain International Music Festival

Manama, (BNA): Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) will celebrate the annual Bahrain International Music Festival held under the “Muharraq Capital of Islamic Culture” programme, on October 18-27. Bahrain has managed to become a focal point of social and cultural movement, where the programmes and events keep on gaining both regional and worldwide acknowledgment. This October marks the 27th anniversary of the renowned festival, a veritable artistic platform that brings together talented musicians and performers from all corners of the globe. The acclaimed musical acts headlining this year’s festival represent diverse cultures and genres from the Arab world and beyond. Iraqi artist Hussain Al-Adhamy who earned a high arts diploma in music and song from the Iraqi Institute of Musical Studies and his bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees in oriental and occidental musical sciences from Baghdad University and the Arab University of North America , will perform on October 18 in Bahrain National Theatre. Nawa Institute will present a musical concert that reveals the deep richness and vast diversity of the musical landscape of pre-Nakba Palestine on October 19 in the Cultural Hall. An open-air concert by the Ismaeel Dawas Band that showcases the folk music and song heritage and traditions of Bahrain and Muharraq on October 20 at the Tree of Life. The Bahrain Music Band will pay tribute to one of the foremost ambassadors of Bahraini songs, the late great artist Mohammed Ali Abdullah on October 21 in the Cultural Hall. An unforgettable showcase of contemporary transcultural music by the exceedingly talented Belgian artist Natacha Atlas and her band of distinguished musicians will perform on October 23 in the Cultural Hall. “Traditional Bahraini Women’s Songs – Orchestral Works” Album will be launched by the Bahraini composer Dr. Mubarak Najem, in collaboration with the Office of Her Royal Highness the Wife of the King on October 24 in Bahrain National Museum Foyer. He used the heritage of Bahraini women’s folk songs to create unique orchestral works inspired by this glorious heritage. Moroccan artist Nabyla Maan takes the audience on a musical journey that explores how traditional Arab Andalusian music meets jazz improvisation on October 25 in the Cultural Hall. Bahraini academic and researcher Jassim bin Harban along with a live show will present the rich heritage of local women’s songs on October 27 in Dar Al Muharraq.
