Manama, Nov. 15 (BNA): Bahrain is set to join dozens of countries across the world and celebrate the "Week of Italian Cuisine" on November 22-28. The event has been held annually to pay tribute to the distinctive Italian culinary tradition. This year it will be celebrated under the theme of “The Extraordinary Italian Taste." "Italian culinary tradition is a distinctive character of the Italian culture and identity and it is widely appreciated throughout the world," a statement from the Italian embassy said. "In Bahrain there are very good Italian restaurants and people are well aware of the unique quality of our culinary delicacies. The Week of Italian Cuisine aims at promoting the "Made in Italy" agricultural and food industry, as well as enhancing the Mediterranean diet, one of the elements that makes Italy the healthiest Country in the world. Our aim is also to spread the concepts of improving product quality, promoting environmental sustainability, reducing food wastage and advocating a balanced diet." The embassy will host, in cooperation with the Capital Club Bahrain, Italian Michelin-starred Chef Valentino Palmisano who will present his signature menu on November 22 at a lunch and a charity dinner to support the Autism Society/Bahrain 4 All) and at a second dinner on November 23. Palmisano will also judge a cooking contest by the students of the Bahrain Institute of Hospitality and Retail. The winner will be awarded a week of training in Italy, offered by the Culinary Academy I.F.S.E. (ITALIAN FOOD STYLE EDUCATION). In parallel, LuLu Hypermarket will run a special promotion week on Italian food products (from 19 to 25 November), with cooking demo (on 19 November) and cooking competition (on 23 November) organized in cooperation with “Cacio&Pepe” and with the participation of Chef Palmisano. The inauguration of the Italian week in Lulu (Hidd) will be on November 19. It will showcase top Italian products, food preparation as well as a glimpse of Italian culture, engineering and style. "Along with cuisine and food we will also celebrate Italian culture at large. On November 18, and in cooperation with the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, the “Nino Rota Ensemble”, an all women group composed of musicians united by the same passion for music and cinema, will perform the most celebrated soundtracks of great Italian and foreign movies. On November 21, Italian cinema will be under the spotlights with the screening of the iconic Federico Fellini’s movie “La Dolce Vita”.
