Bolshoi Ballet to continue its triumphant Brazilian tour in Sao Paulo

MOSCOW, June 22. /TASS/. The Brazilian tour of the world-famous Bolshoi Ballet is a great success, the Bolshoi press secretary Katerina Novikova told TASS. "After completing performances in Rio de Janeiro, the company is moving to Sao Paulo today," she said. The Bolshoi Ballet offers viewers the chance to see Spartacus, a legendary ballet by Aram Khachaturian staged by Yury Grigorovich and the classic Giselle ballet staged by Vladimir Vasilyev. In all, the company will give 12 performances. "Half of them have been shown in Rio de Janeiro," Novikova said, noting that Russian ballet dancers performed for packed houses, and the tickets had been sold out well in advance. The attitude towards the Bolshoi Ballet in Brazil is special. The only Bolshoi ballet school abroad has been successfully working for 15 years in the city of Joinville, which has a rich tradition in dance and for hosting the biggest festival of the genre in Latin America. "By the way, as many as six students of this school took part in the Giselle performance, which the Bolshoi showed in Rio de Janeiro," the press secretary said. "We invited to the dress rehearsal students of the local ballet schools. We wanted to show them our ballet company," Katerina Novikova said. "The performances were attended by one of the best known ballet teachers in Brazil. She is our compatriot, the great-granddaughter of famous Russia writer Nikolay Leskov. Her name is Tatiana, she is 92 years old, she has lived in Brazil since 1944." Read more
