Bolshoi opera and ballet to perform at festival of arts in Hong Kong

MOSCOW, March 17. /TASS/. The opera and ballet companies of the Russian Bolshoi Theater will perform at a festival of arts in Hong-Kong - one of the most prestigious world cultural forums. On Tuesday, the Bolshoi orchestra and the opera company took a flight to Hong Kong; the ballet company is leaving later, Bolshoi Director General Vladimir Urin told TASS on Tuesday. The Bolshoi company is to perform in Hong Kong on March 20-29, he said. Maestro Gennady Rozhdestvennsky will conduct the Bolshoi orchestra during its presentation of the Tsar's Bride opera by Rimsky- Korsakov. Starring are the best opera singers of Bolshoi- Olga Kulchinskaya, Venera Gimadiyeva, Agunda Kulayeva, Svetlana Shilova, Bogdan Volkov, Roman Shulakov, Vladimir Matorin, Alexander Naumenko. The ballet company is to perform at the festival since March 24. It will present the Flames of Paris ballet, first staged by Soviet ballet chorographers and reconstructed by famous modern choreographer Alexei Ratmansky, and the Jewels ballet by famous world choreographer George Balanchine. The Hong Kong festival of arts has been annually since 1973. Its program includes classical ballets and operas, plays, concerts of classical music, jazz concerts and circus shows. Read more
