Iranian Cinema Mature In Terms Of Contents With Time: Analysis

New Delhi, Aug 19, IRNA - Iranian Cinema has matured in terms of contents with time and one of the example is the just concluded 3-day Iranian Film Festival, concluded Sunday evening in Hyderabad in south India. The festival, organized by the Hyderabad Film Club (HFC) in collaboration with Iran Culture House in New Delhi, proves that the Iranian film industry has garnered international fame and now enjoy global following. Films screened during the festival are evident that Iranian filmmakers make films which attract broader range of audience. Moreover, a range of international film festivals have honored Iranian cinema in the past twenty years. World renowned filmmakers along with many critics from around the globe have praised Iranian cinema as one of the world’s most important artistic cinemas. The films screened during the festival, “The Song of Sparrows”, “Forty Years”, “Beloved Sky”, “Family Bond”, “The Child And Angel” and “Here Without Me”, were the pieces decorated with performances and directions to watch out. The Song of Sparrows, Directed by Majid Majidi, a simple yet powerful film, is a cinematic treat. While being funny at times and sad at other times, the film showcased the brilliance of Majidis storytelling. Forty Years or Love at 40, directed by Alireza Raeisian, packed with the commendable performances, proved out to be a nice and a watchable human saga. Full marks to the director and whole team who has proved that Iranian Cinema has matured in terms of contents with time. Beloved Sky, directed by Dariush Mehrjui, is a cinematic fable. The credit of making such an excellent movie goes to the director and the ensemble cast of the movie. Mehrjui effortlessly tells the story of the character supported by some fine performances by Ali Mostafa and Leila Hatami. The beautiful locales and stunning landscape also helps in making Beloved Sky a cinematic fable. Family Bond, decorated with powerful performances, is the directorial venture by Nader Moqaddas, proves out to be a class apart. The Child And Angel, directed by Masoud Naqqashzadeh proved out to be a surprise winner of the lot. Naqqashzade has very intelligently directed this human drama of a girl and her nephew at the backdrop of Iran-Iraq war. Brilliantly directed and exceptional performances by the cast made this movie a visual treat. Last but not the least, the film “Here without me”, is loosely based on Tennessee Williams play The Glass Menagerie. Although the film is an adaptation this version proved out to be quite enjoyable and satisfying. Beside brilliant performances, the direction by Bahram Tavakkoli is excellent, the music is mesmerizing particularly towards the end of the movie, cinematography is commendable however one thing that stands out is the acting. Six Iranian films, of six different styles, screened at HFC in Hyderabad, were evident that Iranian film industry is flourishing. Iranian films are visually inventive, socially engaged and philosophically fertile./end
