Iranian film ‘Tales’ bags int’l award

Tehran, Nov 17, IRNA – Iranian film ‘The Tales’, directed by noted female filmmaker Rakhshan Bani-Etemad, has been selected as the best film at the 20th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF). Films of different countries including Greece, Afghanistan, Spain, Switzerland, Italy and France were screened at the film festival, November 10 -17, among which the Iranian flick was chosen as the best. Bani-Etemad had also received the Best Screenplay award at the 71st International Venice Film Festival in Italy for ‘The Tales’. The film is composed of seven short episodes, in which the Iranian filmmaker Bani-Etemad reveals the fate of some of the main characters in her previous films like ‘The Blue-Veiled’, ‘Under the Skin of the City’ and ‘Mainline’. The cast includes Golab Adineh, Saber Abar, Farhad Aslani, Babak Hamidian, Negar Javaherian, Baran Kosari, Fatemeh Motamedaria, Peyman Maadi, Hassan Majooni, Habib Rezaei, Atefeh Razavi, Mehraveh Sharifinia, Khosro Shahraz and Rima Raminfar and some other artists. Prominent Iranian actress and filmmaker Niki Karimi was also honored at the festival and was also one of the jury members of the competitive section on women directors. The Kolkata International Film Festival is an annual film festival in Kolkata, India. Founded in 1995, it is the second oldest international film festival in India.
