Katara Hosts Kalbelia Dance

Doha, April 13 (QNA) - The Cultural Village Foundation - Katara will organize in cooperation with the embassy of India in Doha the Kalbelia Dance in the Katara Drama Theatre on Saturday. Kalbelia or Kabeliya is one of the most rich dance forms of Rajasthan, performed by a tribe of the same name. Both men and women in the tribe performed in this activity to celebrate any joyful moment in the community, Their dances and songs are a matter of pride and a marker of identity for the Kalbelias the dance is an essential part of Kalbelia culture and the songs are based on stories taken from folklore and tradition Kalbelia have a reputation for composing lyrics spontaneously and improvising songs during performances In 2010, the Kalbelia folk songs and dances of Rajasthan were declared a part of its Intangible Heritage List by the UNESCO.
