With her phenomenal voice, the Lebanese diva entertained the audience with a spectacular two-hour set, conveying a message of world peace to alleviate the suffering of children affected by wars and political crises throughout the world. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi said, "The Emirate of Sharjah will remain a beacon for charity and humanitarian work under the wise leadership of H.H. Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and with the support of Sheikha Jawaher's initiatives that aim to support needy people and alleviate their suffering and help children affected by turbulent conditions as a result of the recent events in a number of sisterly and friendly States." Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed stressed that Majida El Roumi's charity concert will be one of many in a series of initiatives to be launched by the Sharjah Media Centre in the coming period, in its endeavour to strengthen the positive presence of Sharjah in the media and promote the message of tolerance and love across the world. He lauded the great response from the public in Sharjah and the UAE with humanitarian activities that contribute to making the world a better place to live. Addressing the audience, Majida saluted the Emirate of Sharjah and its great leadership, saying that she and her orchestra cannot express anything but admiration for Sharjah, its positions and its religious, cultural and social aspirations, and wished the Emirate greater glory, dignity and success. Majida performed several traditional Lebanese songs, as well as pieces that she sang throughout her career, such as the much-loved Kalimat. When fans shouted out titles or sang verses of songs that they wished to hear, the highly praised artist reacted with amusement before launching into songs that soon had everyone ready to leap out of their chairs. She also did not disappoint her Lebanese fans as she sang for Beirut among other tribute songs to Gaza and Lebanon. Prior to the conclusion of the concert, a young girl stepped up to the stage and presented to Majida a sash decorated with the flags of the UAE and Lebanon in an expression of the ties of solidarity and brotherhood between the two fraternal peoples. Wearing the sash, Majida carried on with the concert, influenced by the audience love and determination to stay until the late hours of the night. In the end, a thunderous standing ovation was given to the highly accomplished diva as she completed her highly successful performance. Adding to the audience’s roaring praise in answer to Majida’s enchanting voice and moving songs were the stage’s superb scenic backdrops and state-of-the-art coloured lights, which brought even more joy to the crowd and caused all to soar out of their seats in step to the music. With her operatic voice and songs, Majida reminded the audience of needy children and refugees throughout the world who are in desperate need of their help and support. The Sharjah Media Centre allocated the proceeds of Majida El Roumi's charity concert to support the Big Heart Foundation and also located donation boxes in different places in the Amphitheatre during the performance. The boxes received a great response from the audience in support of the Foundation and its humanitarian activities. The Sharjah Media Centre will present the concert's revenues to the Foundation in February. The Lebanese singer is well known for her humanitarian initiatives. She generously donated the full proceeds from the sales of the first edition of her new album, Ghazal, (Words of Romance), which was released two years ago, to finance the education of needy students at the American University of Beirut. In December 2012, Majida El Roumi visited the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) headquarters in Beirut to follow up on the steps taken by the UN organisation to curb poverty among youth, and stressed the need to work together to fight evil with good. – Emirates News Agency, WAM – http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395275700439.html
