Philippine, Aussie Tv Documentaries Win World Television Awards

KUALA LUMPUR, May 26 (Bernama) -- A documentary on the recovery of people affected by the Haiyan typhoon in the Philippines, has bagged the World Television Awards 2015 for Best Television Documentary. 'Pagbangon' emerged tops in the humanity category on 'Dealing with Natural Disaster', at the Asia Media Summit (AMS) 2015 here Tuesday. The documentary produced by Angeli Guidaya-Atienza and broadcast in GMA Network Inc, Philippines bagged the award, along with a television programme entitled 'Extreme Weather' which won the Best TV Programme for the Science and Environment category. 'Extreme Weather' was directed by Anja Taylor and broadcasted in the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). By winning the awards, 'Pagbangon' and 'Extreme Weather' beat 20 and 24 other entries, respectively. Meanwhile, Guidaya-Atienza said the documentary was produced based on the unfortunate disaster - Haiyan typhoon - which hit the central Philippines in November 2013, and the recovery process of the victims. "Pagbangon in English means 'to rise' from the terrible disaster," she said upon receiving the award from the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development director, Chang Jin and Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) director-general Abdelrahim Suleiman. The World TV Awards 2015 are supported by ASBU, French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, Radio Television Malaysia and Islamic Broadcasting Union.
