Russia, China to mutually boost each other's film industry - culture ministry

BEIJING, November 28. /TASS/. Russia’s Culture Ministry wants to expand contacts with China to mutually boost each other's national film industry, Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky said on Friday, adding that the two countries should work together to create conditions to distribute Russian movies in China and Chinese in Russia. “We are sure that Chinese film providers could make very good money distributing Russian movies, and vice versa. That is why we have brought a large group of film producers to present their films to the management of the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, and the management of China Film Corporation,” Medinsky said. “For our part, we are ready to give priority to promote Chinese films in Russia.” Negotiations were underway to ensure that a fixed quota of Russian films would be shown in Chinese cinemas, the minister said, noting China’s quota system, which puts a strict cap on the number of foreign-made movies that can be screened. “I can say that there are no Russian movies in the Chinese film market and in Chinese cinemas, and it is the same here,” Medinsky said. “We consider it wrong.” Read more
