Russian Fan Flies Over 8,000KM To Watch BigBang Concert In Malaysia

By Nur Hafizah Tan KUALA LUMPUR, July 25 (Bernama) -- A female Russian fan flew over 8,000 kilometres in a 10-hour flight from Moscow just to watch her favourite Korean boy band, BigBang, performing live here in Malaysia. The 31-year-old die-hard fan of the band, Alina Emelianenko, told Bernama that she spent a lot of her earnings merely to enjoy watching the band's 2015 World Tour (Made) in Malaysia concert on July 24 and 25 at the Putra Indoor Stadium, Bukit Jalil here. Emelianenko, who is a dentist by profession, said she would also be staying in Malaysia for a week before returning home. "I have followed their tour from the very first destination, which is in Korea, before they proceeded to Japan, Singapore and now, here in Malaysia," she told Bernama excitedly when met at the stadium Friday night. Another die-hard fan, Fajer Khalid, from Kuwait, said she and her family would not have made their maiden visit to Malaysia and learn about the uniqueness of this country if it was not for the BigBang concert. "I am a big fan of this band and I really love their music. Since they are not performing in Kuwait, I just had to drag my family to visit Malaysia, so that I can watch their live concert, while visiting attractive places in Malaysia," said the 21-year-old. Emelianenko and Fajer were among 2,800 BigBang's international k-pop fans who came to Malaysia for the two-day BigBang World Tour (Made) in Malaysia concert, according to Malaysia Major Events (MME), an agency under the Tourism and Culture Ministry. MME Public Relation and Communication executive Gaya Subramaniam said it was a proof on how big of such event could contribute to the tourism industry growth as tourist expenditure during the event was estimated at RM15.3 million. "International concerts like this can definitely promote Malaysia as an event destination or hub for international concerts and lifestyle events, and also encourages spectators to extend their stay to visit other parts of the country," she said. -- BERNAMA
