Thousands Climb Bung Bratak For Celebration

BAU, May 2 (Bernama) – Bung Bratak Day was gaily celebrated Sunday with over 2000 locals and tourists climbing the hill for the occasion. Among the activities held at Bung Bratak were a Bidayuh cultural show, beauty parade, and a drama on the history of the hill performed by students of SMK Bau. "We go fully Bidayuh because the Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia wants it that way and we fully agree," Bung Bratak Heritage Association (BBHA) chairman Peter Minos said, adding, Bung Bratak Day would be included in Sarawak’s Tourism Calendar. He said the celebration would be merrier next year when the Bung Bratak Heritage Centre (BBHC) is completed and the road leading to it is sealed. "We will charge RM10 per person and half of that for kids. BBHA needs funds for upkeep and maintenance of BBHC. “A UNESCO man complimented BBHA Sunday at BBHC. He said BBHC was definitely the best in the whole of Borneo in preserving and promoting native and Dayak culture and in honouring history and respecting the tropical flora and fauna as well as the primary forests and the natural environment," Minos said. -- BERNAMA
