16 types of extinct birds in Europe live in Golestan province

Gorgan, Jan 3, IRNA – Despite inflicted damages, still very rare types of a broad spectrum of birds live in forests of Iran’s Golestan province, including 16 types that are now extinct throughout Europe, managing director of Golestan Department of Environment said Thursday. “This province with its very active and sensitive ecosystem is hosting 30% of the animal species and 24% of the plant types of the country,” said Esmail Mohajer, who had attended the Golestan Branch Office of IRNA. Highlighting the need to preserve every single species of animals, birds and plants that have still remained intact from distinction in Iran, he reiterated that Golestan forests are among the few remaining breathing habitats of the plants and animals, that should be preserved free from any type of viewpoints and approaches. “This province resembles a small sample of the entire Iranian nature, blessed with the existence of mountains, the sea, jungles, and even deserts, all in the expanse of one single province, so that presently 114 types of migrating birds are spending their winter in this region, some of which even lay and breed eggs here,” said the Golestan province DOE chief. Mohajer said that Golestan, due to its provision of appropriate food and the required peaceful surrounding for the migrating birds has always possessed a special status among the Iranian northern provinces and even hosted migrating birds from the frozen and polar region of Siberia. The IRNA provincial managing director, too, announced the national news agency’s full time readiness for broadcasting the environmental concerns of the DOE officials in the meeting./end
