ADSG introduces Energy Management Flagship Programme

Abu Dhabi, 29 January 2015 (WAM) - The Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group, ADSG, yesterday announced that members of the ADSG are taking positive action towards the critical issue of energy use. Energy use was identified by ADSG members as a material issue during the consultation stage of the group’s strategy development during the course of 2014. The group’s advisory board recommended that ADSG explore and develop options and activities focusing on this material issue for a more sustainable and secure future in the UAE and region. The Energy Management Flagship Programme introductory meeting, which was hosted by Zayed Future Energy Prize as part of the World Future Energy Summit 2015, and attended by more than 30 organisations across multiple sectors in the emirate, introduced the energy management topic for discussion and called for members to participate and get involved. The Abu Dhabi Department of Transport, DoT, one of the first organisations to commit to the ADSG Flagship Programme, was actively engaged throughout the session, calling for all members to drive action and commitment towards energy efficiency and effective energy management. DoT also announced the department’s plan to run an energy audit as a first step in 2015 as they are aiming to set a very ambitious cut on energy consumption in all their facilities and activities for years to come. ADSG is running the Flagship Programme in partnership with the Energy Institute, EI, Royal Chartered institute. The EI is the professional body for the entire energy industry, delivering good practice and professionalism across the depth and breadth of the sector, supporting around 20,000 individuals and 300 companies across 100 countries. The Flagship Programme will provide accredited training to at least 10 Abu Dhabi based organisations, offering each organisation the opportunity to pursue further professional development in this field. Running through 2015, this programme is part of ADSG’s efforts to implement the ADSG strategy 2014-2019. The Flagship Programme will be officially launched in February as part of the group’s initiatives and activities during its upcoming ground-breaking Sustainable Business Leadership Forum, which will take place on 17th and 18th February. Speaking at the Flagship Programme session, Huda Al Houqani, ADSG Director, said, "The new Energy Management Flagship Programme that we are introducing demonstrates the ADSG and its members’ commitment to provide critical, proactive support towards effective energy management." The introductory meeting discussions focused on the importance of effective, well governed energy management which can improve our energy options for the future." Louise Kingham, OBE, FEI, Chief Executive of EI, said, "The Energy Institute is proud to support ADSG members with professional development in energy management. We are able to provide levelled, certificated training for managers, engineers and technicians and help them to continue on the path to professional recognition with integral annual membership and CPD." – Emirates News Agency, WAM – http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395275729502.html
