Cloud Seeding Expected To Be Carried Out Tuesday - Met Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 14 (Bernama) -- Cloud seeding is expected to be carried out Tuesday over the Klang Valley and east Malaysian state Sarawak, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department. "However, this depends on the haze situation this afternoon, which may improve due to the changes in winds which are stronger," said senior meteorological officer of the National Weather Centre, Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip. He stressed that the department was ready to carry out the cloud seeding operations to reduce the haze which has affected several areas in the country. Meanwhile, according to the Department of Environment website on Monday, Bakar Arang in Sungai Petani of Malaysia's northern state Kedah, was the latest area which recorded an unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) reading, at 112 on Monday afternoon. An API reading of between 0 and 50 is considered a safe level, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy and 300 and above dangerous. Members of the public can visit the http://apims.doe.gov.my website to find out the current API readings. Klang Valley is an area in Malaysia which is centred in Kuala Lumpur, and includes its adjoining cities and towns in the state of Selangor. --BERNAMA
