Co-chaired by HRH Saudi Crown Prince and Egyptian President, Middle East Green Initiative Summit 2022 Kicks off Today

Sharm El Sheikh, November 07, 2022, SPA -- Co-chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, the second edition of the Middle East Green Initiative Summit 2022 kicks off today in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. Under the patronage of HRH the Crown Prince, the activities of the Middle East Green Initiative Summit 2022 will be launched in conjunction with the convening of the World Leaders Summit at the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP27) from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm (+2 GMT), amid a wide participation of World leaders, including heads of state and government from the Gulf Cooperation Council, the Middle East, the Levant, Africa, and international partners. In October 2021, HRH the Crown Prince held the inaugural Middle East Green Initiative Summit in Riyadh. Leaders from more than 20 nations participated in the summit's first-ever regional climate dialogue, which made it clear that cooperation and coordination are required to tackle climate change. The Middle East Green Initiative Summit lays out an ambitious and clear plan for regional climate action, assuring coordinated efforts and a cohesive approach to addressing the impacts of climate change on the regional countries. The initiative also enables the development of significant economic opportunities in the region, which supports the advancement of economic diversification, job creation, and sustainable development, all of which will benefit present and future generations and open up opportunities for a green future. The countries taking part in the Middle East Green Initiative Summit 2022 aim to accomplish the regional objectives set forth by the Kingdom at the initiative's inaugural summit, which include planting 50 billion trees in the region as part of the world's largest tree-planting initiative and reducing carbon emissions in the region by more than 10% of global contributions.
