Deadline to produce Euro 4 cars won’t be extended: Iranian environment chief

TEHRAN,July 15(MNA) – The director of the Environment Protection Organization said the deadline set for domestic companies to enhance their products conforming to Euro 4 emission standards will not be extended. Masoumeh Ebtekar said according to the cabinet approval automakers are tasked with manufacturing products meeting Euro 4 standards as of August 23, 2014 and “the deadline will not be extended”. She also said the organization under her leadership had a “successful” experience in convincing the Oil Ministry to produce and distribute Euro 4 gasoline in some big cities. Due to this measure “we have been witnessing clean air in the metropolis of Tehran” except in certain cases which resulted from dust storms, she explained. “The deadline set for automakers will not be extended because substandard cars have a great share in polluting air.” She went on to say that now Euro 4 gasoline is distributed in the metropolises of Tehran, Karaj, Arak, and Tabriz and according to a plan set by the government Euro 4 gasoline will be distributed in the cities of Isfahan, Shiraz, Mashhad, and Ahvaz.
