EAD’s Managing Director honoured with Sir Peter Scott Conservation Award

ABU DHABI, 17th September, 2015 (WAM) -- Mohammed Ahmed Al Bowardi, Managing Director of the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi, EAD, has been honoured with the Sir Peter Scott Award for Conservation Merit. The Sir Peter Scott Award recognises individuals for their significant and long-term services to conservation, through their work with the International Union for Conservation of Nature, IUCN, Species Survival Commission, SSC, or associated institutions. The award celebrates significant and notable contributions to the conservation of wild fauna and flora, and threatened species in particular. The Sir Peter Scott Award dates back to 1984, and is named after the first Chair of the SSC. In addition to his role as Managing Director of EAD, Al Bowardi is also Deputy Chairman of the Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund and the International Fund for Houbara Conservation. Al Bowardi is also Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Technology Development Committee and the Committee for Developing and Implementing the Water and Agriculture Strategy for Abu Dhabi. Dr. Simon Stuart, Chair of the IUCN SSC, said, "Mohammed Al Bowardi has made a huge contribution to conservation in the UAE, for example launching major conservation initiatives for iconic species such as the Houbara Bustard and Arabian Oryx. We at IUCN and the SSC look forward to continued collaboration with our close colleagues in Abu Dhabi to push forward the conservation agenda in the UAE, in the wider Arabian region, and beyond." Inger Andersen, Director General of IUCN, added, "I am delighted that today the Species Survival Commission of IUCN has given its highest award to Mohammed Al Bowardi. The award is in recognition of his inspirational leadership of conservation in the UAE over many years, including as Managing Director and board member of the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi, and as Deputy Chairman of the Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund and the International Fund for Houbara Conservation."
