Environment Agency calls for rationalisation of water consumption

ABU DHABI, 23rd March, 2015 (WAM) -- The Environment Agency- Abu Dhabi, EAD, is inviting the general public to participate in a 'Water Challenge' event to learn more about the importance of saving water for future generations. The event will be held on Thursday, March 26th from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Al Mushrif Central Park, the newly re-opened park in the capital. The event will be part of EAD’s activities to celebrate World Water Day which is being organised this year under the theme, ‘Water and Sustainable Development’. Visitors will enjoy family-oriented, entertaining and educational activities and have the opportunity to test their knowledge by participating in the emergency water filter experiment and the water trivia puzzle, and pose for a picture with one of EAD’s water hero mascots. On the same day, Dr. Mohamed Dawoud, Advisor - Water Resources, EAD ,will also speak at the Al Tawasol International Tent on water issues and the importance of conservation to achieve the goals of sustainable development. Fozeya Ibrahim Al Mahmoud, Director of Environmental Outreach at EAD, said, "We believe in the importance of water conservation to ensure water sustainability, and if we take simple steps today to rationalise our consumption, we can meet our water future needs with current capacity." Ms Al Mahmood said that the EAD is committed to continue working with its partners to ensure groundwater availability, through integrated management approach of water resources and by adoption of water budget concept. The principle behind the water budget is to achieve balance between needs and available water resources in a sustainable way, wherein we define a fixed volume of water that we can supply sustainably in the long term and we live within it. EAD also called on the private sector to enhance their knowledge on how to create their own water strategy by downloading the 'Sustainable Water Use for Organisations' guideline. Farmers can also increase their awareness on how to use groundwater more efficiently by downloading the 'Sustainable Groundwater Use and Agriculture' guideline, with both publications available in both Arabic and English and downloadable at EAD'sofficial website. – Emirates News Agency, WAM – http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395278278198.html
