Fire And Rescue Department Ready To Send 1,200 Personnel To Indonesia - M'sian Minister

ALOR SETAR (Kedah, Malaysia), Oct 9 (Bernama) -- The Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) is ready to deploy 1,200 of its personnel to help put out forest fires in Indonesia, said Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan. He, however, said the deployment required approval from Indonesia's President Joko Widodo and Prime Minister Najib Razak. "They may be deployed in Banjarmasin and Sumatra, depending on the Indonesian government. This is what we want, to be given the opportunity to help Indonesia to combat fires causing haze," he said after launching the National Blue Ocean Strategy Social Transformation Programme, here Friday. He said if the deployment was approved, JBPM would send various assets including 20 four-wheel-drive vehicles, 40 mobile pumps, 1,200 tents, communications equipment and generator sets. Abdul Rahman said the department was looking forward to help Indonesia to deal with the haze, which also affected some Southeast Asian countries including Malaysia. Thursday, local media reported that Joko Widodo had contacted the Malaysian, Singaporean, Russian and Japanese governments to help put out the fire, especially in peatland areas. Najib in his Facebook page said Malaysia was ready to help Indonesia for that purpose. Abdul Rahman said the expertise and experience of the country's firefighters could not be denied and they would be deployed to Indonesia for as long as necessary. -- BERNAMA
