Germany grants over 62 billion for forest protection

VIENTIANE,01.31.2012 (KPL) - The German Government has agreed to grant over 62 billion kip for sustainable development and forest protection in southern provinces of Lao PDR. The grant aid will be spent on the sustainable development and forest protection in southern provinces in 2012. The handover ceremony of financial assistance was held at the Ministry of Planning and Investment on 27 January between Minister of Planning and Investment, Mr. Somdy Daungdy and German Ambassador to Laos, Mr. Robert Von Rimscha. The financial assistance was out of 326 billion kip that the German Government has agreed to grant to Laos for 2010-2013 period spending on the implementation of national socio-economic development. The large amount of donation is a great contribution to the forest and environment sector to save the natural resources and protect the climate change. The donation of the German Government has expressed to the existing bilateral relationship and cooperation between Laos and German as well as the sustainable development programme.
