A Government Source In Diyala Warns Of Deer Extinction In The Border Region With Iran

Baquba / NINA /- A government source in Diyala warned against the extinction of wild deer living in the Iraq-Iran border region east of the governorate. The source said to the correspondent of the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA): "The wild deer known as (Reem), which lives on the Iraqi-Iranian border, is threatened with extinction due to poaching within the borders of Mandali region, adjacent to the Iranian border east of Baquba." He noted: "The hills and valleys surrounding Mandali region facilitate the poaching that targets wild animals." The source added: "The governmental negligence and lack of interest in wild animals, which live within the border environment and include rare types of animals, are the two main reasons behind the poaching and the decrease in the numbers of wild animals," calling for the establishment of tourist sites that contribute to the revival of wildlife, which represents the most important natural features. / End
