Haze In Singapore Still In Unhealthy Range

SINGAPORE, Sept 14 (Bernama) -- Singapore has been experiencing hazy conditions on Sunday with the air quality at unhealthy levels. The National Environment Agency (NEA) said, the haze was blown in from Sumatra by the prevailing winds. As at 6pm Sunday, the 24-hr pollutant standard index (PSI) was 126-146, in the low to mid sections of the unhealthy range, and the 1-hr PM (particulate matter) was 79-96 µg/m³. A 24-hour PSI reading of above 100 indicates unhealthy air quality. The current hazy conditions are expected to persist for the rest of Sunday and Monday. For Monday, the prevailing winds are forecasted to blow from the south or southwest, and the haze situation could deteriorate as the current unfavourable winds may blow in denser haze from Sumatra, Indonesia. Thundery showers forecasted for Singapore in the late morning and early afternoon on Monday may only bring a short temporary respite. The PSI for the next 24 hours is expected to be in the mid to high sections of unhealthy range, and may enter the low section of very unhealthy range if the unfavourable winds bring in denser haze from Sumatra. --BERNAMA
