Haze : 'Unhealthy' Air Quality In Singapore

SINGAPORE, Sept 18 (Bernama) -- Air quality in Singapore has reached unhealthy level across the island this morning with the 24-hour Pollutant Standard Index (PSI) reading has reached the 120 mark. At 9 am update, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said the readings were ranging between 105 and 120, with the highest was recorded at the southern part of the republic. The PSI readings first entered the unhealthy range on Sept 14 but only at the western part of the republic. At 101 to 200, the 24-hr PSI is in unhealthy range. On Sept 17, NEA said for the next few days, the weather in Singapore and Sumatra is expected to remain generally dry, and the prevailing winds are forecast to blow mainly from the southeast or south. “The hotspot activities in Sumatra are expected to persist under the prevailing dry conditions and Singapore may continue to experience hazy conditions,” it said. The 24-hr PSI is forecast to range between the high end of moderate range and the low end of unhealthy range, and depending on wind conditions. It may enter the mid-section of the unhealthy range if denser haze from Sumatra is blown in, it said. -- BERNAMA
