Improvement In Singapore Haze Condition But Air Quality Remains Unhealthy

SINGAPORE, Sept 11 (Bernama) -- The haze condition in Singapore improved as at 3 pm compared to Friday morning although the air quality remains unhealthy, according to the National Environment Agency. The NEA said this was due to a shift to southeasterly in the direction of the prevailing winds. As at 3 pm Friday, the 24-hr pollutant standard index was 142-163, in the mid to high sections of the unhealthy range, and the 3-hr PSI stood at 108, it said. A 24-hour PSI reading of above 100 indicates unhealthy air quality. The southeasterly winds are forecast to prevail Friday. The NEA said the haze condition is expected to improve throughout the day. However, widespread haze still persists in Sumatera and the condition in Singapore may deteriorate in the late afternoon should the winds turn unfavourable. The 24-hr PSI for the next 12 hours is expected to be in the high end, dropping to the mid section of the unhealthy range. -- BERNAMA
