Iran, Iraq Examine Ways To Expand Environmental Co-op

Tehran, Feb 2, IRNA – Presidential Advisor and Head of Department of Environment Masoumeh Ebtekar conferred on Saturday with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki on expansion of mutual cooperation in the field of environment protection. In the meeting, the two sides called for collective cooperation of five regional countries in fighting air pollution. The Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to bolster relations with its neighboring countries to resolve issues pertaining to environment protection, Ebtekar said. Grounds are prepared for expansion of mutual cooperation, she said, calling for removal of existing obstacles in this regard. To protect environment, special attention should be paid to impact of peace and environment on each other, Ebtekar said. To seriously deal with the issue of dusts, the two sides should devise a mechanism to boost cooperation and set up joint peace and friendship parks, Ebtekar said. The Iraqi premier, for his part, welcomed the visit of the Iranian official and hoped for broadening of mutual cooperation in fighting air pollution. It is incumbent upon all countries of the region to fight terrorism, said the Iraqi premier and invited all regional states to pay due attention to the issue./end
