JMG, DMR Committed To Helping Locals Make Use Mineral Resources

TAIPING (Perak, Malaysia), Aug 27 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Minerals and Geoscience Department (JMG) and Thailand Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) are committed to helping the local community, particularly at Malaysia-Thailand border, make use of mineral resources in the area. JMG director-general Yusuf Abdul Razak said the 18 years of cooperation could improve the economy of the local people and the two countries through various sectors, especially eco-tourism. "So far, six locations have been mapped out geologically through collaborative projects between JMG and DMR. "Another aspect is in terms of geoheritage. While we are mapping out, we will also identify beautiful places that can be turned into eco-tourism destinations," he said. He said this at a press conference after attending the 12th Malaysia-Thailand Border Joint Geological Survey Committee Meeting, here Wednesday. Also present was DMR director-general, Supot Jermsawatdipong. -- BERNAMA
